About DSM

Denise is the owner and CEO of DSM Recovery Health Consultants, LLC, which focuses on organizational development, strategy and leadership for behavioral health businesses.   She received her bachelors in Human Services with a training and development concentration from Metropolitan State University and her Masters in Leadership from Augsburg University.  Ms. McAlpin has worked in this industry for over 25 years as both a clinician and administrator.   She has worked as an EAP consultant and as a department head for a multinational EAP company supervising masters and PhD level triage clinicians as well as overseeing several product implementations.

During her work at the Door County Department of Community Services in Sturgeon Bay, WI, she co-founded “Opening Doors”, a community-based prevention conference.   She also developed and taught the annual substance use and mental health crisis response curriculum to county law enforcement.   During this time, Denise was also a speaker at The United States Conference of Mayors highlighting her innovative work in rural program development. In addition, her work at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and at NUWAY, Inc., where she served as Vice President of Residential Services, has included all aspects of clinical care, program development, regulatory compliance and outreach.

Denise is also a trained interventionist having performed over fifty interventions.  Denise founded DSM Recovery Health Consultation because she maintains a strong belief that a behavioral health program is only as successful as the quality of their leaders.  While employee passion and skill can propel great client care, in order to establish and maintain a legacy of preeminent client care, leaders must be continuously toggling between micro and macro issues, tending not only to client programming, but to employee culture and business infrastructure simultaneously.
